Kairos Outside®
Spouses, parents and relatives of those in prison often “do time” right along with their loved ones. Kairos Outside is a Weekend for the women in their lives that lets them know they are not alone.
A Weekend for the women who wait
When someone goes to prison, the people who love them often carry a heavy and lonely burden. Spouses, mothers, daughters and friends can end up “doing time” right along with their loved one.
Kairos Outside is a Weekend retreat for women whose family member or friend is, or has been, incarcerated. It takes place outside prison walls, in a safe and welcoming setting. A team of women volunteers — some of whom have walked the same road — share talks, small-group time, meals and worship, so each guest knows she is loved and not alone.
After the Weekend
Guests are invited to keep meeting together afterwards, so the friendships and support that begin on the Weekend can continue.
How you can be part of it
- Pray for a Weekend and the people on it.
- Bake cookies — every participant receives them.
- Make agape — hand-made posters, placemats and letters that say “you are loved.”
- Serve on a Weekend team of women volunteers, after training.
